17th-18th Century Silver Reliquary Bust

17th-18th Century continental bust of a religious icon, possibly Italian or French. Pure sheets of silver which does not tarnish inlaid on a copper plate. This type of Mercury Silvering has been done since the middle ages. Parcel gilt on the floral robe.. The copper is attached to a wood and gesso box painted a light blue. Beautiful repousse and chased work on the bust and base. Our research indicates that most of these pieces are in museums.
